Seward Park with Cory and Hailey

We talked about swimming after work, knowing the temperature would creep into the 90s later that day. Hailey and I were prepped to jump into South Lake Union immediately after the doors closed. Then Cory revealed he didn’t have any swim trunks with him. We gave him some shit for that but quickly brainstormed an alternative.

My Mini Cooper bounced its way down I-5 while Cory called in a burrito takeout order. We scarfed those down, drove to Seward Park, battled for a parking space, and walked along the water until Cory revealed a “secret” beach spot. There was a lot of silliness, splashing about and pretending to be seals. Hailey and I raced to the “no speeding” buoy, getting bobbed around by speedboat waves and realizing it was more work than we anticipated.

As sunset turned to dusk, and the water became more cold than refreshing, I remembered how valuable these simple adventures are. Quiet moments away from society with genuine people; this is what summer is all about.

These photos encapsulate the mood quite well. And I’m grateful to Hailey for taking a few shots, too.
