Letting Go

Beach blankets softened the coarse grains underneath. While firewood crackled and echoed in the evening ambiance, we let go; parting with needless judgments and mementos as they evaporated in the flames.

Once the dusk heaved its final breath and strangers extinguished the flame’s flickering embers, our star-soaked imaginations were all that remained.

On that night we released what no longer served our battered souls. And when we silently recalled those things left behind, a sigh of relief.
